Separated from the eye’s function of seeing, the gaze is the object of the scopic drive that objectifies the subject and makes it experience itself as seen. The gaze concerns not what the subject sees but the feeling of being seen; the subject experiences itself as the target of the gaze. In Lacan, the gaze, as a form of objet a, is a unique nodal point of desire and anxiety.
