The structured set of discursive practices that determines what can be said, thought, and recognized as “knowledge” within a particular historical period. Discourse encompasses not only linguistic expressions but also institutions, practices, and subject positions, constituting a material system of regularities. It determines how particular objects (such as madness, crime, sexuality, and others) are constituted and understood, thereby linking the production of knowledge to relations of power.
