The ensemble of ethical practices aimed at transforming the subject’s relationship to oneself, to others, and to truth. Reinterpreted through the lens of the ancient tradition, care of the self is not merely a form of individual “self-improvement”; rather, it constitutes an ethical and political mode of critique that enables subjects to question both themselves and the power relations in which they are embedded. Such practices create strategies of freedom that can challenge and potentially disrupt the demands imposed by neoliberal forms of subjectivation.
